When to Plant?
Plant your bare root Astrantias in early spring for blooms in early-mid summer.
How to Plant
- Choose a location that will have full sun for a few hours and partial shade for the rest of the day - for the best performance, plant in dappled shade and ensure there is a bit of extra room as Astrantia will slowly spread out as they mature.
- Dig a hole and plant your bare roots in rich, loamy soil that is well-draining.
- Place the crown 1" inch below the surface with the roots spread out.
- Cover the hole with loose soil and do not pack down too tight.
- Water well to settle the roots after planting.
How to Care
- Astrantia does not like periods of dry soil so ensure you water regularly and thoroughly.
- You can apply a layer of mulch to help maintain moisture.
- Deadhead spent blooms to encourage more blooms throughout the season.
Tips & Tricks
- Snip the flowers when bloomed for a wonderful and long-lasting flower bouquet.
- Dig up and divide your Astrantia clusters every 4-5 years.
- You can add dried leaves or compost into your soil for some more organic nutrients.
