What Types of Daffodils Are There?
Beautiful and easy to grow, delightful daffodils are the ideal spring bulbs
It’s easy to bring a splash of bright color to your spring garden by planting
daffodils, everyone’s favorite spring flower bulbs. There are literally hundreds of
daffodil varieties and if you’re new to gardening, it can be a bit confusing to know
which to choose. In this blog, we take a look at some of the different types of
daffodils.
Different Types Of Daffodils By Blooming Season
One way to classify daffodils is by their blooming season. By planting different types, you can enjoy daffodils in bloom from late winter to late spring. The season
begins with early miniature daffodil types such as February Gold, continues with
mid season types such as Mount Hood while late-season varieties such as Pheasant’s Eye bring the blooming period to a colorful and fragrant finale.
Types Of Daffodils By Bloom Shape
Daffodils are also subdivided by the shape of their blooms. Perhaps the best known
types are the Trumpet varieties such as Dutch Master, with their long coronas or
trumpets. Double daffodils feature a cluster of petals rather like a rose while mini daffodils are excellent for pots, in rockeries, at the front of the border or naturalized
under trees.
Types Of Daffodils For Warmer Locations
Daffodils were originally a cold climate plant and they grow well in most regions of
North America. However, some varieties of daffodils don’t bloom reliably in warmer
climate zones. Luckily, gardeners living in locations with a warm climate needn’t
miss out on daffodils: varieties such as Las Vegas and Golden Echo thrive in a
balmy environment.
