Description
Dictamnus albus, also known as the gas plant, burning bush, or dittany, is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Rutaceae family. Native to southern Europe, North Africa, and much of Asia, it is prized for its unique flowering characteristics and aromatic foliage.
Height: Grows between 20 to 40 inches tall.
Flowers: Produces star-shaped flowers in loose pyramidal spikes, with colors ranging from pale purple to white.
Foliage: Features glossy, pinnate leaves that release a strong lemon-like scent when crushed.
Volatile Oils: Exudes flammable oil that can ignite, creating a brief, harmless flash of flame, which is why it is nicknamed the "burning bush."
Primarily grown as an ornamental plant for its showy flowers and aromatic foliage. Historically used in traditional medicine, but caution is needed due to its phototoxic properties.
